Orem council OKs changes to Timpanogos hospital addition

Timpanogos Regional Hospital received approval Tuesday from the Orem City Council on changes needed to go forward with plans to add a 15,600-square-foot neonatal critical care unit to the existing hospital. The unit will be located next to the Women's Center. The expansion will also increase space to the powerhouse facility for the chiller room by 500 square feet.

Hospital spokesman Ryan White said the expansion, which should be finished by fall 2011, will increase the number of NICU beds from 10 to 24. Currently, the beds they have are almost always full, he said. Between 130 and 145 babies are born in the hospital each month, and 20 to 35 of those spend some time in the NICU. Provo Daily Herald
