Alpine School District to hire 90 new teachers

Alpine School District is preparing to hire 90 new teachers as the total number of students enrolled continues to spike. Total enrollment for fall 2011 is now expected to be 68,474 students, an increase of 2,374 students over last year, according to budget documents just adopted by district elected officials. The district has been adding about 2,000 new students to its total student population each year, driven especially by population growth in Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain. The new documents also reveal that the district budget is $7 million lower than last year, said Superintendent Vern Henshaw in a recent meeting. Provo Daily Herald
