Med supply company complex under way

Ground was broken last week in American Fork for an expansion of Henry Schein, the nearly $10 billion health care products and services company. The 100,000 square foot project will house the current 430 Utah Schein employees who will relocate from the present company location nearby.

Schein officials expect the building to ready for occupancy in the second quarter of 2014. Local employees will be a part of Henry Schein Practice Solutions, the division of the company dealing primarily with customer support, software engineering, sales and other business-related functions.

A spokesperson for Schein said that the company expects the new facility, located in the northeast corner of American Fork’s North Point Business Park, to be able to accommodate growth for the next two to three years with the space to house more than 550 employees. Salt Lake Enterprise

Women’s Mental Health Center Opens New Utah Location

The Healing Group (THG), a private practice women’s mental health center in Utah, announced the
expansion of its therapeutic services to women and their families in two ways: It’s opening a new 2,300-
square-foot facility in Salt Lake City at 6771 S. 900 East Ste 100; and it has partnered with Regroup
Therapy to bring women together with expert, licensed therapists in a live video support group, allowing
women to join from wherever they choose.

“In three and half years, we’ve grown from one therapist who was renting space from us to nine fulltime
therapists at two locations serving Salt Lake City and Utah Counties,” said Kristin B. Hodson, MSW and
LCSW, founder and executive director of The Healing Group. “Through our partnership with Regroup
Therapy, we’re now able to reach women in remote areas and those unable to get childcare or come into

Payson Veterans Home on track for May 2013 opening

Work on the Utah State Veterans Home in Payson is well underway, with only a slight delay because of a water issue and the drain system. The home is scheduled to have its official opening in May 2013.

"We are excited to see the footings and that they are getting ready to pour the concrete pads," said Gary Schwartz, chairman of the Central Utah Veterans Council. "The plumbing is stubbed up and the contractor is confident they will be able to make up for lost time by adding extra manpower."

The groundbreaking for the home was held on Dec. 14. The land was contributed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through its real estate arm, Farmland Reserve. The facility will have 108 private rooms with private bathrooms and showers and will provide skilled nursing care, rehabilitation therapy, long-term care, hospice care, Alzheimer's and dementia care, behavioral health programs and therapeutic recreation. The facility will primarily serve veterans from Utah, Carbon, Emery, Juab, Millard and Sevier counties, but will be open to all Utah residents who qualify as veterans. To be eligible for admission to the facility, veterans must be registered with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Daily

Intermountain opening new rehab center in Spanish Fork

Intermountain is holding an open house at the clinic on Thursday and inviting the public to find out more about the services that will be offered at the clinic.

Pediatric rehab, speech therapy and audiology, hand therapy and rehab for those with sports injuries or who have had strokes are some of the services that will be available at the new clinic. The clinic will be the third Intermountain rehab clinic that offers pediatric services; the others are in Orem and Saratoga Springs.

Peabody says bringing pediatric and neurological services to Spanish Fork will be a first for the area, but that having all the various therapies available will make the clinic a one-stop shop. Daily Herald

MountainStar breaks ground on Utah's newest hospital

MountainStar Healthcare broke ground Wednesday for its 30-bed Lone Peak Hospital. It is the second component of the organization's construction plan for the Lone Peak Medical Campus, located at 74 E. Kimballs Lane.

The Lone Peak Emergency Center opened its doors in May 2010, becoming the state's first satellite emergency department, addressing the region's need for emergent medical care. The proposed 113,287-square-foot hospital will provide inpatient services to south valley communities, specifically obstetrics care and surgery services, as well as expanded outpatient diagnostic services.

As the newest hospital in Utah, Lone Peak will house four operating suites and a surgical unit. One floor will be dedicated to obstetrics with 10 rooms for labor, delivery and recovery for childbirth and postpartum care, according to MountainStar spokeswoman Audrey Glasby. Another medical office building is in the planning stages. Deseret News

New mental health clinic opens in Orem

Currently only two of the hospital's five wings are open to patients, but the accreditation team was there on Wednesday, and CEO Jeremy Cottle says he hopes to be fully accredited in 30 days.

The hospital treats patients suffering from a range of mental disorders, including depression and anxiety. It also sees patients for substance abuse. Daily Herald
