Sundance economic impact declines

A University of Utah report says the 2010 Sundance Film Festival had an economic impact of nearly $63 million and supported nearly 1,500 jobs.

Although attendance remained stable, the economic impact was about $29 million less than the previous year.

The report released Thursday says the festival attracted more than 40,000 visitors.

The majority came from outside Utah, notably from California, Colorado, New York, Texas and Florida.

The visitors spent nearly $25 million on accommodations, $10.5 million on meals and more than $2 million on transportation.

The festival generated about $3.3 million in tax revenue and more than $18 million worth of media coverage. The Salt Lake Tribune
