Nordstrom to shutter mall store in Orem

Nordstrom Inc. plans to close its Orem store at the University Mall in late February. Even as it is making other investments in the state, the company said the 122,000-square-foot location, although profitable, showed little growth potential.

The company said it will continue to operate its three other Utah locations, a full-line store at the Fashion Place mall in Murray (which it relocated and expanded in 2009), the Sugar House Rack store in Salt Lake City (which it remodeled in 2010) and the Commons at South Towne Rack in Sandy (which it remodeled in 2009). Nordstrom also plans to open a full-line store at City Creek Center in downtown Salt Lake City on March 22.

The Orem closure will impact about 170 employees, although the company said those who want to continue working for Nordstrom probably will have positions. Salt Lake Tribune
